Unhappy High School requirements and mental health

Hello! So I'm in a bind. I am a High School senior ranked 7th in my class currently enrolled in AP Computer Science online through Florida Virtual Schools (FLVS), and I am struggling a ton in that class. The school started us a month late and I'm not even done semester 1 of the class and it's already March. In addition, my grades in all my other classes have dropped because of this one class. I've been having really bad issues with depression this year, so much that I've started going to therapy. After a while I realized that alongside other issues, this class was a major contributor to my feelings of depression. By now I would have dropped the class, but there's one catch. I need to pass it in order to get my STEM Diploma and Honors Cords at graduation since I'm in my school's Honors STEM Capstone Program. I've already completed my capstone course and I am only taking APCS to fulfill the last science credit (out of 5) needed to get STEM honors. I've worked so hard, and cried so many nights trying to finish my project; I can't afford not to get those Honor Cords. Though each day I stay in the class, I get worse and worse; my mental health is destroyed every hour I'm in the class. I have many different issues I'm trying to work on, and this class makes all of them worse. Each day, I lose interest in life because of this and everything else. I don't even want to be a computer scientist, I want to be a psychiatrist.

Long story short, is it worth staying in AP Computer Science to get a bad grade just to get an extra diploma and honor cord representing all the struggle of last year at the cost of putting my mental health in jeopardy?

My Mood: High School requirements and mental health

Default Re: High School requirements and mental health

Hi, mighty!

Personally, I can relate to what you're saying. I'm in an AP Physics program, and I know my father is a computer scientist. AP isn't easy, nor is the computer science subject as a whole. However, it's really impressive to hear you're so far ahead in your class! I'm also a very good student in school, but I know how hard that can be for your mental health.
Really, what I've been learning lately is that it's best to take care of yourself. Even though school is important, sometimes you have to take a break and get back on your feet.

I recommend doing something while taking that class that you can associate with a positive feeling. Eat a snack, or treat yourself just after the class. After a while, your brain can start to associate that situation with something a bit more pleasant.

Hang in there! I wish you luck.

You know, I completely understand your emotions. Iím not in the same boat but I spend much time working with students and providing assignment help. Itís very hard to concentrate on academic achievements when you are in a depression. Maybe it would be nice to ask for an expert tutor help or your parents' assistance? I think you shouldnít reject any help in a difficult situation
