Default My Mom Is Too Overprotective

I'm 14 and my mom won't let me leave the house by myself. We don't even live in a bad neighborhood. She's worried I'll get kidnapped. It seems like she's getting more strict as I get older. I've been going through a depressive episode and I like to be alone. But I want to go to the park and be outside. I feel trapped in my house and it's like I have no freedom. I just don't see why she's so protective. I'm smart and I'm not asking to go out after dark. The park is only two blocks from my house and I have a cellphone.

Hello PurpleFinch: Since this is the Teens' Lounge, I'm not supposed to be here. (I'm old!) But I noticed this is your first post here on PC. So... to PsychCentral… from the Skeezyks! May the time you spend here be of benefit.
"Oh, do not say / My spirit is not worn-- / As curtains furl / In the west wind, / I am more withered / Than the chrysanthemums' / Yellow flowers." (From a poem by the poetess Li Ching-Jau, China, Southern Sung period, c. 1125 A.D.)
