It's weird to be a senior citizen, I have a hard time thinking of myself as that old....then there's my daughter being 36 and two grandkids!!! Today we're celebrating my mothers 91st birthday

I like being old. I used to worry about stupid things - my bum is too big, I don't know how to do that, can they see my greying hair, am I good enough, what does that person think? Then some of my friends got sick, and I realised that life is precious. Emotionally I seem to be less scared of being overwhelmed. I get overwhelmed and then cope. Sometimes I wake up terrified but now I accept that as part of who I am.

Also I worked damn hard damn long hours all my life. I expected to do that, and it was interesting work BUT there was such a tension between self-care and doing my job. Early mornings = 7 am start after insomnia - back home 7 pm, will I sleep tonight? Getting enough sleep or taking time off with flu was a nightmare.

Knowing that I only have a few more years releases me from so many silly preoccupations.

I hope it will be more than a few years you get!

So, I've been told my mother is going home on Thursday. So this whole time she's been inpatient with various complaints I have not been encouraged to call her. I wasn't even given her phone numbers at the hospital and nursing home. And a relative who was with her took her cell phone back to her apartment. I wish she knew how to text.

So my mom is going for an appointment today and going home. I'm envious. Instead of going home, they killed my vaporizer by charging it when there were no batteries in it. I feel wrecked inside.

I have a list of all the things that have disappeared since I've been here. It adds up to a few hundred dollars. My phone, several chargers, a jar of earplugs, a giant tube of Aveeno, several bags of Milky Ways, and more. Today my vaporizer. I would rather be dead right now.

I'm sorry, Angelique. It's sad that people can't be trusted. I hope you will feel better soon.

Now that it has been two years are you permanently staying there. It seems like there is some unknown issues as to why if you are miserable they dont put you in a better place, send you home or to your mom's home. There are so many missing pieces to your story. It has bern confusing. I guess you have no rights about your own care and just a ragdoll with strings. I would ask what you coukd do differently but i really do not think you have this ability anymore and thus is why u have not been moved. I think maybe they are waiting for you.

Angelique - I apologise if this is intrusive but like dancinglady I don't know about your situation. I looked back and saw that you were committed from your flat and had hopes of a group home situation.

You don't have to say if it's upsetting - but if it helps at all we are listening and wishing you somewhere happier.

I had a young friend who spent several years in a nursing home, - tetraplegic after an accident. It was tough but eventually she found someone to advocate and got privileges and moved into independent living again. That's why I feel sympathy for all who live in nursing homes.

Thank you saidso. My situation is complicated. I'll try to explain later.
