Angry Re: Things you miss from the past

Getting snail mail junk mail vs. spam. I don't miss the mail per se, but it was more manageable, as it took just a second to dump it all in the wastebasket. And no ID theft in those days, so I didn't even have to black out my name, etc. or tear that part off to shred it.

Now, my e-mail gets spam. I have to watch for legit messages in my junk folder, "spoofed" e-mail, etc. I have to spend time "cleaning up" my e-mail, at least weekly and I have multiple accounts (don't ask, LOL). Then, I have to "empty the trash" after deleting it all. Or I have to set up filters or block some senders. What a pain.

Obviously this all takes a lot of time, way more than a second. In a nutshell, if I have to get junk mail, paper is easier for me to deal with. Ironically, I rarely get snail mail junk mail now but e-mail is a different story.

Everyone wants your freaking e-mail, and I don't automatically give it out. I ask why do they need it or what is it used for. I don't want even more junk when I end up on some mailing list. And more and more databases are being hacked now, so the more you give out, the more info is under the risk of falling into the wrong hands.

Yeah, e-mail has some advantages, but overall, for me, I prefer a phone call or paper.

I asked them why they needed it and they said to send me shipping updates. Now they send me junkemail every day trying to get me to order more from them! I do still need to order, so I cannot block their email, but I sure wish they would stop!

Hmm. Yeah, that's odd, I think. Seems to me just the card alone would serve as both a holiday greeting and a gentle reminder to tip the delivery person.

Which card? The holiday card or the one addressed to the delivery guy's home address?

I miss collecting glass bottles for deposit money at the store. We need to go back to them since plastic bottles are messing up the environment and could be unhealthy for us.

Yeah, I miss the small glass bottles they used to have for dime in vending machines, perfect size for an ice cold orange crush. They had wooden crates right next to the vending machine to place your empties in so they could recycle them.

Here in Michigan we still have 10 cent returnables. While it's good for the environment, it's a sticky & stinky job taking them back to the store & inserting them in the returnable machines. I hate doing it so much I seldom drink pop/soda...perhaps another plus.
