When I tell people anything about a goal or a dream of mine... even if they are not negative.. it somehow causes me to abandon it.

It is as if saying it out loud sours me on it?

People have done studies on how telling other people your goals affects motivation and performance and found that it can have a negative effect. This article links to a few different studies on this:

It's pretty interesting to read about since there's so much advice to tell people so you can be held accountable.
