Eastern teachings on taming thoughts and converting emotions
I have been asked "what are some good places to learn what cognitive and behavioral therapies look like in Eastern Thought. Here are two sites (and their search hits) which are good places for beginners. No special vocabulary or education is needed to benefit from these beginning teachings. Hope they are of benefit to any who are interested in such things.

Here is the general search web site for Tonglen Meditation. I personally like Pema Chodron, who is famous for, among other things, her book: "Start Where You ARE". http://www.bing.com/search?FORM=WEAC&PC=WEAC&q=Tonglen+Meditation&src= IE-SearchBox here is a site where you can read what she says: http://www.beliefnet.com/Faiths/Faith-Tools/Meditation/1999/12/Tonglen-Meditation.aspx Changing Pain into Compassion.

Here is the link to a search of Lojong Mind Training : http://www.bing.com/search?FORM=WEAC&PC=WEAC&q=Lojong&src=IE-SearchBox And here is the site for the Daily Lesson: http://lojongmindtraining.com/ Taming the Thoughts

This should set you well on your way to a newer and deeper understanding of how to tame the thoughts, and emotions, and progress on the path to being the person we all want to be: our best self~! :-) your friend, Gus

Several of you promised to read more of my book. You probably know that it is 1750 pages and growing. It may be better to think of it as a reference book that covers many topics. So, much of the book can be covered by just reading about topics you want to know about right now. Topics of interest can be found by going to the Chapter that interests you and then look for specific topics of interest in the Chapter Index. Or better yet, go to the search engine at the top of any page and type in the topic you are looking for.

For our purposes on this forum, it is probably best to discuss "how to change this behavior or feelings or thoughts" as if we were discussing a treating some problem rather than discussing the topics covered in a given Chapter. So, bring some problem to the forum that seems to be resisting change.

Please don't expect me to come up with the answers. My wife gave me a nice plaque that quotes Michelangelo: I am still learning.

I have a problem that so far resists change. I do not know if anything can be done about it,but here it is. I have always been ''Slow'' concerning micro-movements,such as typing, buttining shirts, even things I love doing. While employed,I was accused of not trying my utmost to ''get the project done''and I had tried to tell the boss that I am doing the best that I can. He thought I was lazy. I have always had to deal with this, and I fell as though my body's system rebels against what I intend for it to do. Sometimes the results are quite funny, sometimes annoying,as in the case of maintaining employment. Is there a way to gain speed without making a mess of things?

Regards, I Appreciate the Free
Online Psychological Self-Help
Book, Its Very Considerate and
Generous, Thank You.

I bought a few years ago what was
said to be, one of the best self-help
workbooks.

As for myself, I only made it
to chapter 1. I felt to tramatised
to move forward. I was on my
ptsd medications. However New
Symptoms Came, Like "Easily Startled."

I Have Never Seen a Therapist, One on One
More than One Time. I have Trust Issues,
Besides being Overwhelmed by Repeating
Experiences.

I Keep My Guard Up,
To Protect & Keep it all to Myself.
I Feel Very Alone, Assuming
No One Can Understand.

At the Same Time,
I Feel like A Complete Coward..
Instead of Embracing Theraphy
In An attempt to "let go of trama"
To Possibly Have a Better Quality
of Life. Than Achieve my Potential's,
Hopefully.

Medications Alone Helps 50%
My Enviroment is so/so..

My Goal Is To Make An Appointment
With A Therapist. That Will Be A Huge
Self-Help To Myself, Is To Allow 1 To Help Me.
