Gus1234U Thanks for telling me what a Buddhist is and is not. I used to want to be a Buddhist nun and live in the woods of Northern Cal with other 'Buddhist nuns.' I used to want to be an Isha yoga student under a guru, used to want to be a Christian, and a Taoist, but the fit was never quite right. I don't want to be anyone's student, not wholly anyway, I don't want only one teacher, I am a seeker, I play with many colors on many different days. There is not only one way, that is what I have found so far. There is no magic solution or one fits all.

Big fan. His book The Power of Now I highly recommend for anyone who feels lacking spiritually without the need for religion.

Alan Watts has been mentioned above. I have found his words and his mind very useful in tackling those feelings of not quite fitting in with the world. He can also be very funny which can help lighten the mood sometimes.

I first read "Power of Now" at least 20 years ago. It had a great influence on me at the time. I gave the book to a friend who could not read it. At some point I gave a copy to my niece who is now a recovering alcoholic living on St. John, USVI. A few months ago I was talking to her and she told me she started reading the book and was in awe of its message. She is not religious but believes in the spiritual as do I. I forgot I had given her the book but was happy she was inspired by it. I have since picked up my copy of "The Power of Now" and am again inspired. I listened to one of his videos and heard him tell his story of his recognition of his duality in the phrase "I can't stand living with 'myself' anymore and the question of who is the "I" and who is the 'myself'. I was immediately drawn into the essence of the "I" and was living in a state of contentment for a week following but my old thought pattern of negativity has returned and I am unable to reconnect with the joy I had felt. I guess life is a journey some of us reach our destinations quicker than others. Mine has been a lifetime of detours and dead-ends. I was surprised and pleased to find this topic on this forum. Warm Wishes to All...

Yes, I am a fan for several years now. I am currently watching his youtube videos. They are invaluable source of information and guidance.
