Have you tried fasting from social media, and has it been helpful? Why? How long did you fast?

(PC is the only social media I use because it gives you practical solutions for daily problems; I find it worth my time)

I have never tried it, ennie, but I believe it's an interesting idea! Social media is a huge part of our lives, but it can become really unhealthy. So I think taking a break from it would definitely have some benefits. I think it could be interesting to try out. Sending many hugs to you

Although I have accounts on a couple of other forum-type sites, Psych Central is the only one I'm active on. I'm not on Facebook or Twitter or any of those sorts of things. I would think, though, that fasting from social media from time-to-time would be a very good idea indeed!

I for one participate in small doses.

- I rarely text on my phone (I feel you miss substance and context that you would otherwise get by actually talking to the person you are communicating with)
- I do not Twitter, Instagram, etc as I find the quick-short form posts rather annoyingly lacking in the full story
- I Facebook rather sparingly. I also limit my friends and contacts to those I only know personally in real life (I feel I just don't trust people out there, this way is safer, I find having social media friends I don't know an invitation for problems I don't need in my life)
- Messenger? Again only those I actually know. I live 2 1/2hrs from my nearest friend so use the app frequently
- email? This is my main contact and form of communication. I start each morning off writing a series of emails to a select handful of aquaintances.
- if I must use social media, I do so primarily with other women. Yeah I may be unusual here but I just feel it is wrong to use a man who isn't my significant other as a confidant. If I do contact a man other than my partner, I am open about having done so.

As for Psyh Central, yes I sepend a lot of time on here - probably more than I should. It is my voice and outlet. It is where I feel some comradery. But I am careful not to use it as a form of social communication. Again that is the role my common law husband takes.

So yeah, I am pretty strict with myself. I realise not everyone has the same views as I but you would never get me engaged in an on line relationship. I just don't get doing so.

How does this pertain to Spirituality? I am not sure. I am quite spiritual yet not religious. I don't experience the comradery that comes with organised religion. I have my reasons - which could be applied to the list above.

I do not get wrapped up in social media. I almost always delete friend requests if I do not know you for real, have a relationship with you or wouldnt want to talk on the phone with you. I keep facebook for my scattered friends and loved ones. I do not take life very seriously as far as social media goes.

I use social media strictly for my brand as a DJ/Producer. I am on quite a few platforms. I do not even go through the feed on my personal account. If I see something interesting at the top I might respond, but usually I don't even do that.

I have been trying out this new software called "rescue time" which tracks how much time you spend on certain things. When I checked the social media percentage, I was shocked. I had no idea I was spending all those working hours.

I am working to reduce my social media time by checking once in the morning and once before I quit for the day.

I really hate it, but it is essential for what I do.

I do have my own website which I am free to do what I please. It will be standing once facebook and others are dead and gone. I control my content and cannot be censored.

Yes. I have taken fasts (I like to call them breaks, vacations, sabbaticals ) from social media. FB, PC, yes. I don't have twitter anymore because I found it pointless. I use the Freedom.to app to block pages when I need to.

I have taken breaks from social media and itís good. I am on the fence about this. There are a lot of good things about social media and a lot of bad things. I think the key is to find a balance.
