Default Sex Drive

Can anyone help with regaining your sex drive after stopping an anti depressant? I am slowing withdrawing but am noticing that my drive is extreme when I don't take the pills for 2 days in a row. will it stay high like that?
How long did you take to withdraw? any helpful tips?

I think it depends on what anti depressant you were on? Mine didn't have that side effect, but I've definitely heard of some that do! Also, it would depend on the reason for withdrawing from your anti depressants. Low mood = low libido. And if you're withdrawing from them because your mood is more "stable", there might be a natural increase in your normal libido levels.

I am on Zoloft. though I have had a high sex drive while on it, just a hard time having an orgasm with a guy. When I first started taking it I noticed right away the numbness. It did go away after awhile and got better but I am not sure if that is because the drug stops working after a while ( which is why doctors always up the dose!) If you only take it a few months you will notice the sexual numbness! If you take it for years it does get better, but now going off of it I am realizing what I was missing!! I actually think one of the reasons I went on it (never told anyone) was to control my high sex drive. i went on once for anxiety, another time for depression and anger control. But when I look back I was on it more just to be able to deal with the horrible and negative, depressing people I am surrounded with on a daily basis!

When I was on Paxil, my sex drive was gone. I was having sex with my husband only because I thought I had to. I do recall elevated sex drive when weaning off Paxil. In fact, a lot of thing got elevated during that time, not just my sex drive. For example, I remember extreme anger outbursts, I was actively looking for a fight on a couple occasions. All of that went away after I stopped Paxil entirely. Everybody is different, but I would expect that when you are completely off the antidepressant you are raking, your sex drive will go back to normal.

I found that anti depressants, ( plus the combination of drugs) , can definitely affect your sex drive. But there are also many other factors involved. Your body is a complicated machine. Realize though that if you stop taking something to get your sex drive back you may also get back unwanted feelings and behaviors that put you on them to begin with ! Sometimes it's a no win situation.
Give up one thing to have another. Let's face it, the ideal situation is to not have to take anything, but how many people can do that lately ?
