Default Surgery update

Week four and I fought with my Doctor. He changed the timeline on my brace release - he wanted to keep it on for two additional weeks. I said this is impeding my independence and making life difficult so I want it off when he initially said I could, i.e. two weeks. He begrudgingly said okay. I donít know I guess the surgery was a positive thing but it really has taken me out of my routine. Iím also concerned the dent itís putting in whatís left of my life - Iím 63 and donít want to take a whole bunch of time recovering from surgeries - just no fun and the timescale ainít what it used to be. Even when I get the brace off I still got to get my arm back into some kind of shape - probably another two months. What makes it bad is my support network - it ainít there. So that gives me more time to build anxiety about this situation. Bottom line - Iím still chugging along but boy nothing has made me change my thinking about lifeís crappy pitfalls and lack of compassion - peace

I dont hear you saying that it feels so good that you dont think it needs another two weeks in the brace.

What if you are trading these two weeks for a (remaining) lifetime of pain and limited ability?

Arent you supposed to be old enough to know better? It takes as long as it takes! Youre in the wrong generation - how did you do that?!

It is great that you want to get that arm back into shape but it also takes time. There will be some improvement at 6 months but it may take an entire year! Time heals to a certain extent--our anxiety cannot make it go faster or change the ultimate outcome. Hopefully, the doctor did a great job (listen to him and your arm) and you will be around for years and years more to enjoy the benefits of this surgery.

When you're 63, you don't heal like when you were 23. Better follow the doctor's advice or you'll end up with poor healing and continued problems. If you think your life is impacted now, wait until you develop some issue from trying to rush yourself out of a brace.

Also, if you have to have surgery for the other arm, expect this doctor to not want to do it. Nobody likes a non-compliant patient and he's not going to want to deal with you in the future.

He wasnít angry about - he said it would probably be okay.....Iím sure if he thought it wasnít a good idea he would have been more adamant....Iím not stupid - if his demeanor was different Iíd be less inclined to take it off.

Well, you DID use a four syllable word to describe his demeanor. That seemed portentious!
