Default Do you have a phobia of something?

I don't have any phobia's! But I am kind of scared of the dark, spiders, heights, lifts, small spaces, blood, bees and clowns.

I am afraid of gunshots (PTSD) or anything that sounds like one (fireworks). I recently started going to a shooting range with my old T to help overcome this fear. I used to own a handgun at one time, but now, I tremble and almost have a full-blown panic attack just picking one up. I have made small improvements...I actually loaded a clip and then put it in the gun, but had to stop there so I wouldn't freak out. It's slow progress, but hopefully I'll be firing that handgun soon, and ridding myself of the demons that have been haunting me for over 4 years now.

Yes, I have social phobia, which is a fear of making a fool of oneself in other people's eyes. It covers a lot of different things and I have recently started therapy for it, determined to destroy it once and for all.

About my only fear is the fear of heights. Since I have been in the Martial Arts, I have learned to overcome many fears. That is one of the things that Martial Arts teaches, is how to discipline your mind and body.
One of the most important things in overcoming a fear, is learning to relax. Relaxing in the martial arts is a definate must learn tecq. It does not come easy to learn, and I don't believe that martial arts is the only way to learn relaxing tecqs. either. It was just 'my' way of doing it. When you are challenged to the Max. both physically, and mentally, the relaxation process automatically becomes a part of you, and your fears tend to become less and less. Heights is one thing I don't think I will ever overcome, but I really don't care. lol

Sincerely,

SongBird
