I was once on Depakote and Klonopin. I couldn't even focus or do school work. It knocked me out too much so I wasn't even me. I've had luck switching towards seroquel and others, although now I'm on Buspar, Lexapro, Risperdal, Wellbutin, and Trazadone. My PDoc switches my dx from bipolor to depression & anxiety and back again, if that helps to put the meds in perspective.

i had a nervous breakdown ("psychotic mania"), and was on depakote, klonopin, risperdal, and as-needed ambien. i was a hot mess. i'm now on trileptal instead of depakote and doing much better. i was also on a low dose of lamictal w/ the trileptal, but it slowed my thoughts down too much, so now im down to abilify and trileptal.

topomax scares me. i hear it can make you stoopid. have you tried lamictal and/or trileptal or keppra?

I have not tried either one of those drugs, Do they help people with Bipolar 1 with psychotic features or Scitzoeffective disorder, I am not on a antipsychotic meducine, I was on Abilify one time but I thought I was going to jump out of my skin, Maybe they should have given me something to counteract that

I don't think Topamax is approved for bipolar, is it? I used to take it. It didn't seem to do much for my mood.

I have schizoaffective and take a variety of meds but not depacote. I take Latuda, haldol, gabapentin, lamictal, Zoloft, ambien and Ativan. My moods are stable and my psychosis is minimal.

My daughter's PDoc told us one time that Depakote would not be a good med for my daughter. He said it's very hard on the woman's reproductive system. He didn't go into details, just said that he would only consider it as a last resort.
