Default OCD Made Worse by Anxiety?

Hello everyone,

In short, I believe my OCD is made worse when my anxiety is high and am wondering if anyone else has had this happen.

So when my anxiety seems to be at a high, I have really bad OCD. This includes how I cleaned my entire side of the dorm, and moved everything into specific places, and if they are not in the proper place, I start to freak out and have to move them back no matter what. It makes me worry that I did not lock my dorm room door when I know that I did, so I have to turn the handle 3 times back and forth, and if I have to come back to check on it, I turn it another 2 times back and forth. When I am walking to the store, my steps have to be 1 foot in a certain block of sidewalk, then 2 steps in the next one, and I have to follow this pattern. My OCD also goes down to the small stuff, like larger books go underneath smaller books, and papers must be straight.

I am wondering if anyone else feels that their OCD is made worse when their anxiety is worse? It seems to be the case for me.

I forgot to mention door handles. I can't touch public door handles because I feel like I'll wind up getting sick from it.

Well, OCD is an anxiety disorder. So yes, it makes perfect sense that OCD symptoms would exacerbate from higher anxiety.

Both of my therapists (I see two every week) and my psychiatrist say that OCD is worse when anxiety is high.

In my experience, this is true. I check doorknobs, lights, the bed, and water faucets up to 50 times a day when I'm anxious.

When mine gets really bad I wind up having to check that I locked my dorm like 8 times turning the handle, then I wind up havign to come back about 10 seconds later to check it 3-6 more times. I've had times where I'm halfway to my lecture and I have to turn back around just to check my door again.

Still currently having problems with my OCD. I assume because my anxiety is still very bad. My depression has been lifted thanks to Seroquel, however I am still feeling very anxious, and worrisome all of the time. Hoping that my anxiety gets under control soon!

I also find that higher anxiety levels cause an increase in obsessive behaviors. On the flip side I have had obsessive flare ups when anxiety was low. Hmm, just looking at my two statements I am reminded of the chicken or the egg argument.
