My Mood:

Default Not going to psych ward

So I emailed my therapist about whether or not I could go to the psych ward at my local hospital because of my continuous suicidal thoughts. Also, the last time I went to the hospital for my mental health stuff they said " the next time you come in for mental health stuff, you will be admitted." My therapist replied that she called my dad. My dad and my therapist talked and they agreed that they dont think im "sick enough" to go into the psych ward. I think that that is total BS because I continually have suicidal thoughts. I went home and cut myself. What do I do?

Hello aedgerle: This appears to be just your second post, here on PC. So I'll take this opportunity to say... welcome to PsychCentral! I hope you find the time you spend here to be of benefit. May I suggest you introduce yourself over on PC's New Member Introductions forum? Here's a link:

https://forums.psychcentral.com/new-...introductions/

Not knowing how old you are, or where you live, makes it a bit difficult to offer suggestions I think. Assuming you're still a minor & your therapist has permission to talk with your dad there may not be much you can do other than to simply present yourself back at the hospital & see what happens. (I'm assuming you don't see a psychiatrist since you didn't mention one in your post. If you do, that would be the person to reach out to with regard to this.)

If you're perhaps a young adult at this point, then your therapist should not be talking with your dad without your permission. And if you gave it, at some point, perhaps you want to withdraw it & have a further, frank conversation with your therapist regarding what's going on with you & how you're feeling. But keep in mind I'm just talking in generalities here. A lot of this depends on your age & the laws where you live as well as other factors.

Where I live, therapists don't have any authority regarding whether or not a person goes to the hospital. This would be a decision that would be made by a psychiatrist or other physician. But perhaps things work differently where you live. Perhaps other members, here on PC, will have some other suggestions they can offer.

There's a lot of support that can be available here on PC. The more you post, & reply to other members' posts, the more a part of the community you will become. Plus there are the chat rooms where you'll be able to interact with other PC members in real time (once your first 5 posts have been reviewed & approved.) So please keep posting!

Hi there.

I visit other sites and see that you have made this same post, with the same usernane on them.

I don't mean to sound rude or mean but I am not sure what answers you are seeking. This is something you need to be discussing with your dad and your therapist.Nobody online can help you be admitted.

I'm truly sorry you are struggling. And I hope you go to your dad with all of this.

Well that was easy to find. Just google the username. I just googled my user name. Thank goodness a lot of Dachshund websites come up.

If you're a minor and you need parental permission, it is possible to get Child Services involved.
Also, you can present yourself at the hospital, and if they admit you, ask them to section you: that way your father doesn't have the authority to discharge you, because you're there because the law says you have to be.

I am not sure if this is true in your location, but here, regardless of if you are a minor, if you can get to the emergency room, they will evaluate you to see if you need to be admitted. If you say that you have a plan and the means to carry it out, they'll admit you.

If you are in the US, and you believe you need to be in the hospital, can you get there without your dad's help?
