Frown Loss of a pet

October 16 2017 Monday at 2:50 pm my family had to put our beloved puggle ( mix of beagle and pug) a very aggressive cancer. Was diagnosed Saturday and Monday he was gone. Couldn't eat or walk and was in distress (pain). Broke my heart he was my son and I first dog. Devastated I never thought Rex would affect me the way he did. The loss I feel is so intense my heart literally aches. The loss is so profound😢.

This literally blew me out of the water I was in shock I cried when we found out and have cried everyday since it happened. Lost interest in my tv can't sit still! I wander around my house looking for anything of him and call out his name I talk to him out loud telling him how much I miss him and love him.

The thing is when he was here I never felt a connection to him I used to call him my lil pain in the *** but I cared for him if he was sick I would worry but never reAlly showed him the love I had for him. I mean I fed him and was his nurse after surgery from a dog attack a few years ago. But he was my sons dog and now he's gone I feel that love for him greatly and it breaks my heart because I never expected to feel the way I do. Thanks for listening

It's sounds like you loved Rex a lot more than you were aware of, or allowed yourself to feel.

I am so sorry for your terrible loss.

Valfor, I'm so sorry for your loss. My dogs have been my connection to my soul. I feel things for them that I can't with others. I have Schizoaffective disorder and it makes it hard for me to connect with others. My dogs' deaths over the years have devastated me, but it does get better. It's OK to grieve for a furbaby.

Thank you for reading my post It hasn't even been a month yet. Finally had the strength to put his bed away and yesterday my husband emptied his treat cupboard. I didn't have the heart too. Did a thorough cleaning and the dog hair I swept up mad me cry all over again and I put it all in a bag and it went in a jar. I know it will take time but now my son wants another pet. I don't have it in me to go through it all again, they don't live long enough But I will never forget my Rex oh his pu when he was a baby is onmy profile I posted it when I first joined psych central.

Peace and love

Those are some tough things to take care of. I'm sure the dog knew you loved him in your own way. Even calling him you "little pain in the a__" He probably knew that was out of love. I truly believe that animals go to heaven and that we will see them again one day. When they cross the rainbow bridge their pain and suffering is gone. It's painful but at least they are not suffering anymore. When the time is right getting another pet may be good for the family. You have a soft place in your heart for dogs, and a lot of love to give to one. There's a little mut out there that needs a good forever home.

Losing a pet is really hard, I lost my dog over 2 years ago and I still miss him.
I am so sorry for your loss. Give it another couple of months then think about getting another one, at the moment the pain is still raw.

Hello there,

I really hate this happened to you. It’s been a while ago but I lost my childhood dog.
I loved her to death. It hurt like heck when she passed. My mom got another dog of the same breed. It took time but we still do miss her. The hurt in the heart will ease with time.
Try to keep busy. Use coping skills and self-care.
