Taken off ventilator

Hello all,

My brother committed suicide this morning. It came as a huge shock as it was so something he was always against and he was a happy go lucky guy. The fact that he would do this and leave behind his daughter is shocking. It is not anything like the person we knew. Right now we are at the hospital and he has been taken off of the ventilator because the doctors say there is no chance of recovery. He doesn’t seem to want to give up though, but he will never be able to live a normal life or even function at all.

I just needed to write this down. There is nothing anyone can do, but he is still fighting. But there is no longer anything to fight for as he is basically gone. I don’t know why he did it. I just wish he hadn’t. I’m not mad at him, just broken.

I am so very sorry. Over and over it's proven that you never really know what is going on inside another person and their public presentation can be quite deceiving. You didn't know. You had no way of knowing. It is not your fault. I'm so sorry.

What an awful tragedy. I am so sorry that this has happened. It must be such a shock.

Thank you for the kind words everyone. It has been a little over a week and now I have to go back to work. I honestly do not feel ready yet and I am scared of seeing people and hearing their questions. I am not ashamed of how my brother died, I am just not mentally in the position to want to rehash it. Here’s to hoping things go well tomorrow.

I’m so sorry, space. Are you able to explain to your employer that you are not ready to be back, and at least get some reduced hours? Do you have a T to help you through this horrible period of grief?

I hope your coworkers are not intrusive and can respect your privacy during this difficult time.
