I drove down to New Jersey from my home by myself. That was no problem but when I got there my breaks failed. I got the car to a dealer ship (next door to the hotel) and got it fixed but just then, my mom called and told me a massive blizzard was coming my way early.

They were talking 3 feet of snow. I was there for one day and I had nothing with me. It was too late to try to beat the storm (I had been out all day with the car and an interview).

I stayed a a cheap hotel.. it had no food. / no snacks / no drinks.

Then, then, I felt like I was getting the flu.

I had a friend in the area who I asked to help me if necessary and she said no.

I was alone, without food, without gear, facing 3 feet of snow.

But -- we got 9 inches, I found a "dennys" down the street that was opened, and my flu never really came on and went away when things looked better (probably an anxiety attack).

And that is why I will never travel in the winter. Even if I get to florida or something I could be stranded from getting back.

Thanks for the info WishfulThinker; I'm sure you're right. It's just that I was pretty small, and all I knew at the time about the bear was: It was on the loose, it was pretty close to me, it was much larger than I was, and it had sharp teeth and claws.

In any case, I'll be sure to take a bunch of Celine Dion recordings with me the next time I venture out.

That must have been terrifying! I am glad it got straightened out.

Now all those kids are on drugs and in jail for various reasons and I’m living a pretty good life.

But just knowing they didn’t like me and overhearing them say “we’re gonna get her”, really freaked me out. These girls were on the aggressive unit and very easily could have hurt me badly.
@Mountaindewed

That would scare me too. I am glad you were able to avoid that.

My parents sat down to rest by a pond and I wandered off by myself. I was staring at the trunk of a large tree when - O horror of horrors - I made out a thick, cinnamon-colored fuzzy form behind the tree, protruding from each side, looking right at me. I let out a yell and ran as fast as I could toward the pond and my parents, waving my arms and pointing. Now unfortunately we had lost sight of our car and had no idea how to find it again.

sounds scary, mopey

I want to know what happens next

Some of my scariest moments caused an adrenaline rush that lastest for hours. A few of examples:

Going skydiving--when they opened the door and the air rushed in, what a good scare. Scuba diving--when we anchored at a sandbar on the way to a remote island to explore, the current nearly carried us away. I had to swim so hard to the anchor line that I ran out of air and had to share with my H to make it to the top. There was no time to be scared but when I got to the top alive--there was that awesome adrenaline rush. Driving during my youth--I would go as fast as possible on mountain roads simply to produce that lovely adrenaline rush. Being stranded on a remote road during the cold winter in the mountains--we kept having to push the car to get it to start (and it kept us warm)--when we eventually made it home--what a great feeling!

There were some bad scary moments too that have kept me up during the night--they all involved sexual encounters or escapes from men.

Once I was in a car accident without my seatbelt on and my fiance at the time flipped us. It happened really fast but I remember screaming. We flipped so fast that even though I had no seatbelt on the only thing I ended up with was six stitches in my nose. The golf club in the truck bed didnt even come out. The first person on the scene was a nurse and the second person on the scene was an EMT that was my neighbor. How cool is God? I was 18.

When I was 14 I was playing with a jaw breaker candy in my mouth. I ended up inhaling it and it got stuck. I looked at everyone around me but I couldnt speak. I panicked. I ran into the kitchen and got the largest cup I could find filled it with water and started chugging. It dislodged it into the right pipe!

(Description of major highway accident)
Possible trigger:

I don't know -- maybe having crippling social anxiety all my life and living in constant fear ... maybe it helped when I had a physical crisis ... it was a problem with obvious physical solutions ... so I simply did those things. I dunno.

So I guess the next time you see someone with the outward appearance of keeping it together and being calm in a situation ... you have no idea how much of a mess they may be underneath it all, just like so many of us.

I have had so many.....

The summer I graduated from high school my parents decided we should go to Yellowstone. There was a mommy bear & her cub in the street surrounded by people. I got out of the car to take a picture with a twin lense adjustable camera. I was standing behind the whole crowd looking into my camera. All if a sudden someone grabbed me by the arm & pulled me. I looked up from the camera & saw mommy bears paw swiping right at where I had been. I was safe but that was a close call.

Fast forward to my career which programmed military computer systems. I had a business trip to Macon Georgia's AF base. We flew from LAX to Atlanta then took a very tiny plane that barely flew higher than the tops of the trees. That was all uneventful. After days of meetings we headed back to Atlanta. Got on the jet to head back to LAX. The plane got almost to the end of the runway & came to a screeching halt instead of taking off. Everything inside the plane went flying forward that wasn't seat belted in. The stewardesses were white as sheets trying to recover. Turned out the pilot told us that an engine warning light went off at the last point to abort the take off & we were going to taxi back to the terminal & they would let us know what we were to do after they had it checked out. Turned out it was a faulty warning light & our business group ended up flying that plane back to LAX. When all the sudden stopping was happening we had no idea what was going on or if there was something more serious than just the screeching halt. Everyone was frightened at the moment it was happening. Glad it was nothing serious but it sure makes one stop & think about how safe planes really are.

So that is just a couple of the many scariest moments if my life...could probably write a book if these too.
