I'm trying. Hope that is enough. Sometimes I will post a comment or so.

I have mixed feelings on this subject. I wasn't sure it was up for discussion so I thought I was expected to leave my opinions to myself.

To be honest I was confused by the repremand because it did seem to contradict the discription of the forum at the top of the page. That is neither here nor there.

I am sorry just posting a link is not acceptable. Sometimes a link to a news story is enough. I appreciate the heads up. I wonder why something informative can't be just that. Can it not have value unless it is presented with some commentary or introduction or stimulates discussion? I can get value for information without it requiring it to have an opinion tagged on or even offered in response.

Seems pretty inhibating and constrained to me. Neither of which appeals to me or even sits well with me actually. Then again, I don't do well with imposed boundaries and I really don't do well with boundaries that seem counter productive.

I guess one could say... 'hey... check this out... You may find it interesting.' I wonder if that would be enough to get a nod. Who knows.... so much is a mystery to me.

Pachy, I understand not wanting to influence others by giving your opinion. I've done that myself in the past. It's not that I believe I'm so powerful that I will influence others. I've noticed a trend for people to jump on board with the original opinion. Maybe you could initially say you are withholding your opinion until others have a chance to express themselves, then in a later post give your opinion?

Admin, would that be within the guidelines?

The point of the guideline is that we are not twitter or a place to just post headlines -- we are a discussion forum. Kicking off a discussion with no thoughts or opinions on what you're posting seems like a non-starter to me. It needs some context -- what made you want to post it? What's interesting about this story to you? Why are you concerned with news coverage on this topic? How does this relate to something personal in your own life or experiences??

The note at the top about not posting opinions not related to a specific news story is meant to prevent people from just using this as a general "op-ed" forum on any topic that comes to mind. Opinions, thoughts, context and such should be related to a current news story or item.

Thanks,
DocJohn
