Default Need suggestions

Well, I bombed at my first Art Market. Everyone loved my stuff, the style, and the pieces themselves, but I realize that the work was too personal to me, so no one bought anything.

So I've decided to try a few different things. One of which is painting some portraits of historical icons in the style of my painting. I'm going to do Marilyn Monroe, Dorothy Daindridge, Bob Marley, and JFK. I would love more suggestions, especially significant historical icons of color. I'm sure I'll do an MLK and maybe a Medger Evers, but would love more suggestions on historical icons. I could do a Cesar Chavez, but I don't know if that would play here in Florida. I know in California it would be very popular.

So please, comment and suggest other popular historical icons. I am trying to go for icons that are of a certain age due to copyright laws, etc. So I'm not going to do a Barack Obama, even though it would sell easily.

Thank you in advance for suggestions!

Michael Jackson comes to mind. Perhaps an era when he was least popular?
How about a painting of the "Million Man March". I've never seen a painting of this event. You could add the faces of famous black/white socialist, inventors, civil rights leaders etc. that made a huge impact on society.

here's an idea.. just add the faces you feel deserve a place in the portrait.

Love the portrait that you shared. I would like to think that I flew. This is very beautiful and you are very, very talented.

Love the Million Man March idea...I also had an idea at the supermarket of doing Princess Diana, maybe Mother Theresa too, I dunno about that one though.

I agree, Princess Diana is a great one to do.

Nice work. It is good to have a new fresh idea for art work. Nothing better than a creative path to walk.

I wouldn't get on yourself for your experience at the art market - definitely not about them being too personal. You should never let that get away. That is what makes your art different from the next person. Some of my best work came at times of very personal emotions/thoughts.

Keep creating.
