Default I think I have BPD

I think I have BPD. I have been diagnosed with PTSD but I think I have BPD as well. In the past few years I've gone through three relationships, 5 jobs and moved 5 times. I've been to detox/substance abuse treatment 6 times and gone to group and individual counseling. I really think I have BPD and I was wondering what others here have done to get help for it.

Have any of your counsellors suggested this could be the case in the past, or given any advice on receiving a proper diagnosis? I feel that should be your primary starting point and from there you'll hopefully be offered professional support tailored for BPD patients. I'm not sure what it's like in the US, but in the UK I'm waiting on therapy. And it's a pretty long wait.

I think a lot of people in the mean time look into ways they can self care. Designating some you time will definitely help. It obviously depends on your lifestyle, but I'm a mum, so once the kids are in school I will have a couple of hours each morning to do some art. Or even just to have some quiet time and reflect on what's happening in my life and how I should be dealing with it sensibly rather than letting the BPD impulsive reigns take over and dictate life for me.

Being self aware can be key to tackling this illness. The more self aware you become, hopefully the more you'll be able to stop episodes and impulsive behaviour. Identifying your triggers and learning how to cope when they happen is also pretty good.

I have BPD. It's not fun. It's also often confused with Bipolar II because the symptoms can be quite similar. I would get assessed by a mental health professional and see what they have to say. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy is the "gold standard" for treating BPD, and you may find it helpful to get some stability in your life if you do in fact have BPD.

I’ve also heard that schema therapy can be helpful.....

It’s strange how “abandonment” is a core issue, and at times this forum feels quite “abandoning”
