Default Coping techinics for potential fear of panic attacks.

I had a severe panic attack last year. Since then it's really been bothering me. Any suggestions for coping techinics that have worked for others?

visualisation - keep a calming image in your head, preferably your fave place etc and is the sun shining?

have something in your pocket, like a bracelet, you can reach in and fiddle with it and focus on how it feels

long slow deep breaths and moderately slow controlled speech, really think about what your saying as you say it

music, you can have one ear bud in, listen to calming music and still follow conversations

those are the ones I use, hope you get some better answers.

There are some apps that help as well: Mindshift, Virtual Hopebox and Calm. Best wishes.

Distraction and self-soothing work well. I still need to go back to the root cause, and I do that in therapy.

Focusing on my breathing has really helped control my anxiety, especially when it is severe. It also prevents full-blown panic attacks, because it distracts me from the scary thoughts.

Whenever I feel very anxious, but not panicky, I go for long walks.

I also carry polished stones in my pocket.

When I am at home I put a weight on my shoulder (I made a heavy bean bag out of a sock) that provides calming comfort. When I am out in public it seems to help if I have something in my hands.

Thanks for the suggestions! I am going to try to implement one or more and see which works best for me. from what you have all stated it seems distraction is the way to over come an attack
