Heart Childhood Trauma and Long-Term Health

This is a brief (16 minute) TEDTalk MEDTALK.

"How Childhood Trauma Affects Health Across A Lifetime"
Speaker: Nadine Burk Harris

https://www.ted.com/talks/nadine_bur...etime#t-945230

Childhood trauma isnít something you just get over as you grow up. Pediatrician Nadine Burke Harris explains that the repeated stress of abuse, neglect and parents struggling with mental health or substance abuse issues has real, tangible effects on the development of the brain. This unfolds across a lifetime, to the point where those whoíve experienced high levels of trauma are at triple the risk for heart disease and lung cancer. An impassioned plea for pediatric medicine to confront the prevention and treatment of trauma, head-on.

This is an important talk.
I hope it somehow helps.

Heart Re: Childhood Trauma and Long-Term Health

This video touches upon the science of why children with "Adverse Childhood Events" (ACE) are at risk for illness(es).

I found the speaker very insightful and compassionate.
I found her talk quite validating.

Love to All!

I am an ACOA and have spent years dealing with it through self help, Al-Anon, self help books etc. This TED talk sounds interesting but Iím almost afraid to listen to it for some strange reason. Itís like Iím just sick and tired of dealing with mental and physical health issues. I donít want to hear anymore reasons why Iím fooked up. Maybe when Iím in a more stable frame of mind I can handle it.

Man I sometimes wish I have cancer (I had basal skin carcinoma, as there were ulcers on my skin exactly as Google image depicted, I even scratched ALL of them to see if they bleed) because of the treatment my parents give me. For ****'s sake I want to be normal.

N-O-R-M-A-L.

I am not. Will never be now. My brain has become too damaged for me to be normal. It's just not in my hands now.
