I have been trying to lose weight for a year.
I have what I call mini-binges. I get so hungry. I ruin my diet. Like I will go through a bag of chips and a container of hummus. It is frustrating. If you are dieting how do you handle your hunger?

Yes, that's what I do. When I get really hungry I will just go out to the store. I don't keep junk in the house at all. Someone sent me Christmas cookies and I ate them in two days. So you are right. I can't keep unhealthy foods in the house. If there are cookies around I just turn into a cookie monster. ![]()

any neighbors with kids you could give the cookies to?
I eat a piece of cheese or a handful of almonds if I am hungry before a meal. I only eat 2 meals a day. Spend a lot of time in my car so have almonds in there if I get peckish. good luck, I have been dieting too. Plus I drink a lot of water. I believe the sensors for hunger and thirst are the same. So when you feel you are hungry try drinking 2 glasses of water. Then I chew gum a lot to keep my mouth busy. hope this helps. bizi

Well I talked to a dietician and it seems my vegetarian diet is the culprit. A diet with more carbs leads to hunger. I want to stay vegetarian. So we worked out that I should eat more nonfat dairy because the protein helps lessen hunger.

I messaged my primary care doctor and asked for a short-term appetite suppressant. She refused.
This is absurd. I have been prescribed appetite suppressants in the past and they were very effective and I never got dependent. I was kind of upset but I got over it. I got angry enough that I just vow not to mini-binge. Sent my doctor a message and joked that I would have to start smoking. It was just a joke. But I remember that when I was young that's how my friends and I curbed our appetites. We got thin by smoking cigarettes like demons. Now it is just all around harder. I will have to drink a lot more water.

Something I just remembered...when I was young it was easier because there wasn't food every ten feet!
In my town we had one fast food place and it was for going to after dances and dates. No one went there during the day. This was before fast food became a part of life. In contrast, in my immediate neighborhood we have six fast food places, three restaurants, three coffee houses, a liquor store and a 24-hour supermarket! I am not even counting in the bars and breweries of which there are many. And this is in a semi-rural neighborhood! I don't remember grocery stores stocked with junk. I don't remember whole aisles with just ice cream! It's absurd. I don't remember banks giving out cookies and popcorn. Talking to a dietician helped. But also one just has to close eyes to temptation. Two meals instead of three is a good idea.

I get up at 730 then work until 1130 when I eat a big lunch the work some more then have a snack then have dinner at 6pm then nothing to eat until lunch...I think it is called intermitant fasting.

No, I don't have it in the house but I could walk five minutes away to the 24 hour supermarket. You, my dear, are doing everything right. You are soooooo disciplined and a really big inspiration. I really don't remember being this hungry on other diets. But as I said I used to be able to get appetite suppressants from doctors, which, I think, were a big help. I want to lose weight. I don't want to exist in hell. I think I have the habit of emotional eating. Yes, I really think I am going to continue with Intermittent Fasting because it is the best way to break the habit of emotional eating. Thank you for the tips. They've been really great.
