2.Are there foods to avoid or add to prevent thyroid conditions?
3.Iím having trouble losing weight. Could it be a hypothyroid problem?
Hello, Mary.
1. Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone, slowing down your metabolism and leading to things such as weight gain, constipation, depression, dry skin, hair loss, and some flu-like symptoms.
On the other hand, Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid produces too much thyroid hormone, leading to anxiety, tremors, heart palpitations, diarrhea, weight loss, and oily skin
2. Foods that help include: Brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, and hazelnuts, almonds, most types of fish, poultry, red meat, garlic, olive oil, onions, and leafy greens.
3. Trouble losing weight can be attributed to many factors, including hypothyroidism. When my thyroid began acting up, I gained 20 pounds. Provided, I wasn't eating the best, but it hadn't been a problem before. Through receiving treatment and going on a sugar-free diet, I managed to lose 11 of those pounds. I would suggest speaking with your doctor, who can provide blood tests that will determine your thyroid hormone levels.
Best of luck to you.
