D.C. would work for me. I like zoos, too.

I am moving to Fairfax, VA April 15th. I am not comfortable with going into D.C. Any cities are triggers for me an send my PTSD and anxiety through the roof.

There's the Udvar-Hazy Center/Smithsonian:

Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center | National Air and Space Museum

Or Mount Vernon (but no food there) or other, mostly Civil War places.

Old Town Fairfax might have something to offer: Fairfax Virginia - City of Fairfax, VA Tourism, Shopping, Dining, and Events

You don't go through the "City" to get to the Zoo. All of the Washington/Maryland/No. Virginia area is very built up and the "same" as far as crowded. But Washington is not like other cities as there's a height limitation on the buildings (so no skyscrapers) and any part one would visit is not "busy" like, say, New York or Boston would be, other than with tourists in the middle/at the Mall doing the monuments (where we would not be). The Zoo is on Connecticut Avenue which is not commercial, all apartment buildings/residential. I had therapy in an apartment building across the street and was looking out the window one session and saw antelopes, gazelle, etc. and my brain did not register them right away until suddenly I made the "Africa" connection and sat up staight, looking wildly around so my therapist asked what the matter was and it took me a minute to figure out where I was, LOL.

The other "side" of the Zoo is in Rock Creek Park! Check it out: http://nationalzoo.si.edu/Visit/gettingtozoo.cfm

What about some place on Skyline Drive? Picnic? If you're disabled or over a certain age, you can get in for free. Calm. Tranquil. Beautiful views. Definitely not in the city.

Skyline is too far south for me. I'm way up by Baltimore and the Delaware/Pennsylvania line. I would maybe do somewhere in No. Virginia around the Beltway but don't really want a 2-3 hour drive each way.

How many of us are willing to do the zoo?

Or Fairfax?

We could do a poll and decide. I can do either one. I'd feel better if we can decide soon.

Yes, I think we need a place. I'm with you, Travellinglady ("that makes two of us, don't tell, they'll banish us you know" ~Emily Dickinson :-) I'll do whatever, as long as we can get at least 5-6 of us?

Who else is in?
