Default My Breasts Feel Heavier Than Usual

I've had cramps all week, and my period will be starting this week, but cramps are usually the only symptoms I have. This week my breasts have been feeling really heavy. They're not sore or look bigger, just heavy.

I've been overeating a lot of junk food, so I'm wondering if my breasts feel heavy because of my period or because of what I've been eating.

Food wouldn't do that. Not pregnant are you?

Ah well not too worry, sometimes the breasts can feel like that just before a period.

Your symptoms preceding periods can change over the years. Younger, I dealt with lots of cramping, but that got much better as I aged. Breast "heaviness" and soreness is more what I notice now. It is pretty normal for your signs to change over the years I think because our hormone levels, etc. go through changes.

Have you noticed an increase in weight? It is normal to retain fluid prior to and early in menstruation. How much sodium is in your diet? You might try a mild diuretic like caffeine or an OTC med.

I agree, it's probably just a change in your body as you grow a little older.

Don't dismiss the pregnancy thing right off...I can tell you a story of a virgin who found herself pregnant! Her fiance didn't believe her at first, but he came around. Heard her son got a big position working with the head CEO of Everything!

I have had this feeling as I've gotten older too. I recently cut most caffeine from my diet (for a different reason) and that seemed to help. I also cut back on salt the week before my period and that helps as well. There are some breast massage techniques (google it) online that have also helped me with PMS symptoms. I've been using them to hopefully control cyst issues, but found they also help with the PMS stuff.

You might have what is sometimes called "fibrocystic breast disease." One good doctor told me that he thought it was pretty dumb to call it a disease, since more than 50% of women develop it at some point in life. I agree with him.

You can kind of tell by checking if you have lumpiness. It may come and go. An OB-GYN can tell you, if you are "cystic," and show you how to feel for that.

Since the heaviness went away, it's unlikely to be anything to worry about. See if it recurs and if there is a pattern to when you get it.
