this isnt schizophrenia.com. people will actually answer your question here so you dont have to repeat post.

it supposedly does have a poorer prognosis. its not a diagnosis that a lot of people get. and no one will getting it anymore. as of may 2013 its no longer a recognizable diagnosis. you now just have schizophrenia.

My understanding is the reason that they dropped the subtypes from the DSM 5 was that even the pdocs weren't using them because they really had no value. Also it depends on what your idea of successful treatment is, supposedly a third of people get better, another third are better with constant meds and a final third are treatment resistant. But there is new stuff every day. They used to think that therapy didn't work but now there is CBT being implemented for first episode psychosis.

Open Paradigm Project Please do not buy into the lie about "poor prognosis"
here are some stories of recovery. Yes meds can help, it is a personal choice. Having a Dx doesn't mean you have to become your disease, and give up hope.

Be sure and scroll down to the bottom page of the link and watch more video testimonials of recovery.

I have an aunt who fully recovered from the schizophrenia Dx after having been treated and institutionalized. I am also pretty much recovered. My aunt spoke of occasional residual symptoms and I have a few problems once in awhile, but it's not holding me back from life.

Have you ever read elyn sacks the center cannot hold? She has disorganized symptoms and the worst prognosis and recovered using medication and therapy. I highly recommend it.

Newtus; I don't recall the exact number of people with the SZ dx. Remember these people use a different language to describe their symptoms. Many of them had a progression of Dx's like a lot of us do. Going from simple depression to bipolar to psychosis to Sz. and on and on. I was amazed by those who self declared as having had a psychotic experience and recovered while rejecting psychiatry.

The first guy in the video says he had a dx of sz. There were at least 4 that I remember. One was a psychiatrist, himself.
