I tried this on two separate occassions with the hope I could get past the side effects, because I know it's also supposed to be good with neuropathic pain and hopefully would alleviate the pain I suffer. Thing is I could never get past the headaches I got. The second time I tried it I did manage to stay on for a month, but then just had to quit, I had migraines constantly and was experiencing more anxiety than prior to being on it (probably cause of the amount of pain I was in from migraines). Unfortunate because I know that this drug has worked well for many.

I can't recommend this. Too many side effects. I have been on it for 2 years and the side effects seem to be worsening. Going to ask my doctor to change to another A-D. Groan.

Been on this med for 4 months. Felt better after about a week of being on it. It gave me some motivation to face my anxiety head on. The side effect of insomnia has not eased in all this time. Takes HOURS to get off to sleep then keep waking during the night. Very lethargic during the day. It seems to have now pooped out and my mood has dropped again. It helped my anxiety to a degree. I wouldn't recommend it because it's effects are not consistent.

Calming affect

|
Cons:
|
Major daytime sleepiness, Sexual problems, Dry mouth
|

This is the second time I have tried this stuff. It made me so sleepy I thought there was something else wrong with me....constantly yawning and lethargic. It did have a calming effect - like I haven't a care in the world - and would be great if I wanted to lay around the house and sleep all the time, but I am (was/want to be again) a very active person and have work to get done. Although it did not reduce sexual drive, it made climax nearly impossible and even then, not satisfying.
Since everyone is affected by these drugs differently, it is hard to make a recommendation....but if you are a physically, sexually active male who relies on being awake and alert for work, don't take this drug!

Wow, alot of negatives about this medicine. I have been on this medicine for about 2 years. It really works. I stopped taking it for a few weeks and noticed a big difference in my mood and was crying all the time about any little thing. If I have to take this med for the rest of my life, so be it. I am going to get through life on a day by day of dealing with ups and downs by taking the med and enjoying life.

Horrible side effects when starting

When I started this medication I was so sick for the first week that I could barely get out of bed. I had a horrible headache, and my stomach was so upset that I was not eating or drinking. Eventually it got so bad that I was admitted to the hospital for dehydration.

helped daily pain
|
|
Cons:

episodes of heavy sweating or hot flashes

I was on Zoloft for major depression and anxiety for several years. But I suffered from joint, muscle and nerve pain daily, most often moderate, sometimes very bad. Switching to Cymbalta helped with the daily moderate pain in legs, upper spine and joints. The very bad lower back and joint pain was not affected but does not occur as often, so it brought me much pain relief along with the same relief from depression as the Zoloft gave me. With the Zoloft I had no side effects after the first two months. With Cymblata the only side effect I have is hot flashes, a couple or so a day. Well worth the pain (and depression) relief to me.

Cymbalta I LOVE Cymbalta! This has been a miracle drug for me. I was already taking 100mg of Lamictal once per day when I initially started taking Cymbalta. I immediately started having some side effects including dry mouth, nausea, irregular heart beats and decreased appetite. However, my moods were so dramatically improved that I decided to wait it out. After about 10 days the side effects (all but the decreased appetite) went away. When people used to tell me that life wasn't that bad I never believed them. I can breathe now and I feel wonderful in my own skin. I used to break down crying at trivial things. As an added bonus I have lost 14 pounds! Yes, I am a Cymbalta cheerleader, but I do know that this is not for everyone. The docs had me on countless SSRI's before they tried this and none of them ever worked. In fact, they made my condition much, much worse. I hope this helps someone.

Cymbalta is the only antidepressant I've taken to leave me feeling constantly awful. The only way I can describe it is as a coffee-buzz-gone-out-of-control with effects similar to some migraines (BTW, watch the espresso intake while on this drug: I experienced heart palpitations, sweats, and even worse than normal symptoms after coffee one evening).

Cons:

mania, dry mouth

This product was awesome at treating my physical symptoms of depression. I am in pain almost every day of my life and, with this drug, I was almost pain free. The dry mouth I had was tolerable. However, it did cause mania and I was not able to sleep. I think I might try it again with a mood stabilizer. If you suffer from physical symptoms of depression, or generalized pain, I highly encourage you to consider this treatment with your doctor.

Made me VERY anxious. Was on Neurontin to counter this.

It worked wonders for me. If it weren't for the price I would still be on it. The only problem was the anxiety it caused, I couldnt sit still no matter what dose I was on. They had me on Neurontin(800mg a day)to try to counter it though that only helped for the first 3 weeks.

withdrawal
|
|
After four months, it just stopped working. It wasn't doing much good to start with as far as mood. THE worst part is withdrawal. I started in May and I'm still titrating down. I had to break open the caps and count pieces....every time I step down a few, I cry for two days off and on. I'm down to 8 little pieces a day...I'll do that for two weeks and then go to five or six.
NO WONDER they say you can be suicidal after taking this and then coming off....so, moral of my story....if you ever take this and need to get off, go as slowly as possible, break open the caps and do not follow the Dr's orders according to the drug maker. The lowest dose is 20mg....I probably take .005 mg at this point and still boo-hoo and get headaches. IMO...it shouldn't be sold at all.

I was placed on it to help my mood and ADHD. Worked well until now. I went up on the dosage 120mg per day and it only seems like my mood is flat, but my ADHD is still under control. Although to be fair I have been going through a very emotional time so that may be overwhelming to its effects. Total time on it is about 2 years and I do still get a headache now and then but most side effects are manageable. Overall I think it's a good med to use but I still have my questions on tolerance of it.*UPDATE* 05/01/08 I am now off it completely. It seemed to lose It's use for me. It was also suppressing my emotions. I do feel more up being off of it. It was a good med until I hit that wall of it no longer doing it's job. The weight loss is nice also being off of it. It may work for some but it stopped for me.

Numbness.
|
|
Cons:
|
Numbness, made me very tired.
|
|
I was put on this in addition to Mirtazapine. It just made me more and more numb to the point that I no longer felt love for my boyfriend. Nor did I feel anxiety or annoyance when he vanished for two weeks, or happiness when he returned. Put simply, I did not care about anything. It was more like a chemical frontal lobotomy than anything else. My therapist felt it was seriously hampering progress. The numbness could be a useful respite to some people though, and I would consider taking it again for that purpose if some major trauma came into my life. Coming off it now and seem to be getting withdrawals despite only being on it a month - trouble with visual tracking, dizziness, jolty feelings in my body, brain zaps, skin crawling, night jerking, weird arse dreams etc. Quite enjoying the weird effects myself but they might upset some people.

I've only been taking this for four days, but so far I don't have any complaints. I'll probably be posting in a week or two with an update. I listed the decreased appetite as a "pro", because I'm 50 pounds overweight, so I'm not complaining about that.

I felt better than I had in years, and it helped plantar fasciitis, urinary incontinence as well as my depression. I had so many hot flashes, my scrubs were soaked, and my face was red all the time. Eventually it stopped working on the depression. Now in weaning off, I'm having strange electrical type shocks in my brain and body, I am crying a lot and had about a week of nausea. This is much worse than the depression itself, and when I tried to go back on full strength again, it didn't work. I am miserable. Trying to take Welbutrin now, I already take clonazapam for night terrors.

helped with anxiety and TMJ problems
|
|
Cons:
|
slight nausea and insomnia for the first week or so but not too bad
|

i was such an i-don't-believe-in-western-medicine-especially-anti-depressants type person but i tried cymbalta after my doc highly recommended it. i was hesitant but tried it as a last resort as i am dealing with chronic neck pain, TMJ, and fatigue which was causing severe depression and anxiety. i had even tried effexor for 6 weeks before which is a similar drug but experienced several side effects. cymbalta has not banished my physical ailments but has allowed me to focus on other things and not so much on the pain. i was in so much pain i could not even function. now, i am able to. the pain is still there but the anxiety about the pain is gone as well as the major depression. i feel like it just gives me better coping skills or something. i'm not saying its a permanent fix but until i get whatever it is going on resolved, cymblata helps me deal with it in the meantime. i have no side effects yet and it has been 4 weeks. i started to feel better after only 6 days which is faster than most SSRIs and SNRIs. i just wanted to give cymbalta a fighting chance because there are so many negative things said about it. it may not be for you because its different for everyone but i'm telling you...for the time being it has saved my life. give it a chance!

Side effects hard to overcome at first

I started out on 30mg to help with depression/anxiety. The side effects were very hard to overcome at first - I was extremely tired, constantly yawning, sweating easily, and experienced nausea. My doctor increased my dosage to 60mg after one month. My side effects also increased, but I also noticed many positive results. I haven't had a panic attack in several months, my depression has eased, and my appetite is back to normal. I have been taking Cymbalta for 7 months and am so far pleased with the results.

Only FDA approved for 60 mg, so Insurance won't cover it with I need a boost.

I have been taking cymbalta since it first came out, about 2 or 3 years. It works great when I take it. If I miss just one dose I get the worst headache. It does go away about 4 hours after I take it again. My doc. wants to put my one 120 mg, but having problem with ins. co.

I only took it once and it totally spaced me out. Plus, I couldn't urinate! No joke..when I went to the toilet, I would sit there for 2-3 minutes waiting for the message from my brain to reach my bladder to release the urine. I'm not kidding. It was like I had no control over my bodily function! Glad I didn't stay on it!!

Problems urinating at night, headaches, tiredness, dry mouth
|
|
Started taking Cymbalta in June of '08. Got up to 60 mgs. Felt great at first but, have side effects from it. Biggest problem is getting up several times a night to urinate, but can't do it. Starts around 4 am and does not stop until I get up for the day. Extreme tiredness due to this problem. Dry mouth is a problem too. Overall, this drug is ok. But, dreading hearing about the withdrawal symptoms after experiencing them with Effexor. I cut cold turkey at 60 mgs only being on the drug for less than a month. -------- Day 3 of withdrawal from Cymbalta. Mind you I was only on this drug for 24 days. I have been through the Effexor (after being on it for almost 2 years at 150mg) withdrawal and thought that this withdrawal would be a picnic. I can't believe how terrible the past 3 days have been. I have been extremely dizzy, brain zaps, cold sweats, and peeing all the time (I think this is due to the fact that I had urinary problems with Cymbalta and now that it is getting out of my system, I am able to urinate again - kinda scary knowing this). I hope that day 4 proves to be like it was when I was going through with the Effexor withdrawal. I started to feel better then. But, who knows. Cymbalta doesn't mess around. ------- Day 6 of withdrawal from Cymbalta. Feel much better, though still have weird brain zaps and a little bit of vertigo. But, I started to drink green tea and have been drinking lots of fluids the past few days. I definitely feel much better today than six days ago. I was lucky I did not have work and could lay in a dark room with the air conditioning on for a week. *It will be different for a lot of people due to various reasons like dosage amount, length of time on medication... I got off of Effexor in six days, so my metabolism must be faster than others.

Pros:

made me happy
|
|
Cons:
|
made me manic, night sweats, brought back addictions, bad withdrawals even if weening off, don't care about anything
|
|
well, seemed alright at first, but got to the point i was tired i went home and read all afternoon until bed. but when i went to bed, couldn't sleep. i didn't care about doing housework, my performance at my job suffered cause i just didn't care and didn't fell like doing anything. as with prozac, i picked up my old addictions that i have been clean from for almost three years. all in all, i lost $5,000 to my addictions while the doctor tried to find the right anti-depressant. i went from functional but moody and agitated to not-functional. i'm done trying, my family, my checkbook, my life can not go through "trying" another anti-depressant. even if you ween off it, the withdrawals are awful, joint pain, headaches, nausea, constant crying.

I've been on this since it became available at various doses. Doc switched from Wellbutrin/Lexapro to Cymbalta simply in the hope it would aid in pain relief & help depression(remained on Lexapro). I don't know ..... I miss my Wellbutrin. At 120mg I ended up in the ER w/tachycardia. Weaned off Lexapro, then down to 30mg on Cymbalta, couldn't stop crying, again-miss my Wellbutrin.... but I could poo! On 60mg now for a couple months, think I've hit a wall, can't sleep even tho Lyrica makes me weary .... better suck down my Ambien. Is there a maybe recommendation?

Withdrawal is Hell. Dangerous. Often leaves you with a strange feeling of illness/weakness.

This stuff's so bad, I hope some lawsuit will come out against Lilly so I can join. Evil greedy poisonous monsters...
Find out for yourself, search "Cymbalta withdrawal".

Went from Prozac forever to Cymbalta. I had leg cramping
and tight leg muscles. Cymbalta 60 mg stopped the leg tightness
and works well for mild depression. Good product

I have been on cymbalta (after Effexor XP) for over a year and it is, so far, my miracle drug.
I don't get my highs and lows in depression/anxiety and I am lucky not to have any side effects that I have noticed.
I am much happier in life on it. One exception...I am still havind difficulty coping with people...they just don't get me!!?? I try to be liked, but I constantly fail. Thanks you Cymbalta

major side effects
|
|
I first had trouble sleeping, so my dose was lowered until I got use to it. Then I had abdominal pain, and tar like stools. Very painful to pass. I had a colonscopy and an endoscopy. I'm 32. It wasn't pleasant. After these were cleared, I started having sharp pains in one breast, then I started to leak. I thought it was puss, but later found out it was milk. I have never been pregnant, I found it quite scary, and the doctors thought I had breast cancer. Got tested, no cancer~!!! yeah!! Got off Cymbalta and all the symptoms went away. The doctor's never looked at these issues as side effects even though it was my only new prescription. My doctor said the medication was tested on men, so leakage wasn't a issue.
