Tried this at 20mg and 30 mg and unfortunately had no real effect for me. Gave me bad headaches though and I yawned a lot. Coming off not too bad but headaches worse than ever

has really helped my anxiety disorder and in turn my depression too
|
|
CONS:

Fortunately I've had no side effects! And overall I've noticed that my anxiety disorder is more in control (note: I'm also in counseling!) - within two weeks Celexa had helped remove the "panic" portion of my disorder so I could actually leave my dorm without fear of panic attacks. I'm counting as especially impressive that this helped so much considering I started taking it just before a particularly stressful time in my life (I study in Boston and was around the bombings and the subsequent manhunt).

I tried this for anxiety and depression, but it did absolutely nothing. I did have insomnia while on it, but most meds I've tried have given me insomnia so that's not unique to Celexa.

Completely stopped self-harm thoughts, has lifted a general fog

constipation, excessive yawning, insomnia

Best med I've been on so far. It's alleviated a lot of my depression. I don't have that weight bearing down on me anymore. I've had no outbursts of tears. There was insomnia, at first, until my doc made me change my meds to daytime instead of before bed. Increased appetite. At first I felt 'funny' and had unusual boughts of sweating. But that went away after a few weeks.

reduced social anxiety and depressive thoughts, reduced appetite
|
|
CONS:
|
caused tinnitus, extreme drowsiness, changes in perception; failed to reduce suicidal ideation
|
|
I've been on 20 mg for about 2 months.Other cons: decreased inhibition (good for reducing social anxiety but not so good otherwise), palinopsia (persistent after-images). Altered perception is mainly lots of visual snow, having to do double-takes a lot because you saw something else the first time. Maybe some minor hallucinations like moving shadows. Weird dreams. Might have had a role in precipitating a dissociative episode. Tinnitus is a rarer side effect but I got it and I don't know if it's going to go away.Still, not a bad drug as far as antidepressants go. It didn't reduce my general anxiety as well as I'd hoped.

Mostly got rid of my depression.

Doesn't work as well for me as Lexapro.

I went from being severely depressed to merely being apathetic or even content some days. This is a great improvement for me. It also works well with my Risperdal. I'd recommend it to anyone who can't afford Lexapro.

able to stay calm, not crying, haven't lost my temper w/my 4 y/o

floating feeling
|

I've only been on this 2 days now but already today I could see a difference. I've been dealing with severe depression, panic attacks, and anger control issues. I've been suicidal and homicidal (wanting to kill my son), and when he had a tantrum today, I did really good. I didn't get angry (still got irritated), I did't yell at him or hurt him. I didn't cry. I am on 20mg/day. The only thing I really have noticed is feeling like i'm floating a bit. It's not enough to make me lose my balance, just weird feeling. Hopinig that this w/therapy will get me to being a better person and mother.

Evens the lows up and minimises the negative self-talk.

CONS:

Slows down constructive thoughts and strange physical feelings.
|

At first became a bit manic, with some twitches, 'spastic' walking and spaceyness, confusion. Now hot at night, dry mouth, erratic sleep patterns, but this has saved my life by shutting down most negative thoughts, like peeling off a negative layer, exposing 'me', but only slight increased anxiety.
Highly recommend this for MDD.

Celexa has really helped my depression.
|
|
CONS:
|
I haven't had any side effects from Celexa and I have had side effects from a large number of psych drugs.
|
|
Celexa has changed my life. I suffer from bipolar depression (diagnosed 10 years ago) and have been on Celexa for about 2 years. I do not have side effects from the Celexa, which is great. For me it works better with a mood stablizer. Right now I am taking Saphris with it. Best mix of meds since I was diagnosed.

I was on Celexa for quite some time before my psychiatrist weaned me off of it. I wasn't taken off of it because of side effects or a bad reaction, instead I was taken off of it because I was no longer feeling its effects. I was on a high dosage, but I apparently just became so used to it that it stopped working for me. But overall, I would recommend Celexa to anyone else. In all honesty, it was actually one of the most effective medications I've been on, but I just became so used to it that it no longer worked for me.

well it is a week tonight that he started it and things are still awesome. not one blowout, no fights, no swearing that I heard at any bad drivers or anything else that used to grate his nerves. he is very pleased with the med, i'm very pleased with him, i'm sure his co-workers are very pleased too, he is not a zombie, he still gets a little mad when something goes wrong but he just deals with it and then its gone, no going over and over it for hours and hours..we are going to do some visiting this weekend so will see if the family & friends notice the difference (not telling anyone). So far Still So good!

significant other finally went and asked for help, been depressed somewhat I think for years, had big mood swings, held things in then freaked out after a few weeks, couldn't let things go from now or even the in past, had good days but even so everything still bothered him, etc etc. It was either get help or likely the end of a loving relationship. It was hard as he doesn't do medication, felt like there was something wrong with him for needing it, etc. Anyway, got it and started it this friday at 5pm,he was tired and had a very slight headache but not even bad enough to take a pill for. He seemed already calmer then! it was strange. the next day he was definitely calmer, people cutting us off in the car didn't even really fizz him-he just shook his head and that was it, it is Monday now and still the same thing, he said himself he still feels a bit annoyed when something happens, but then that's it and its over, he doesn't feel rage or he doesn't dwell on it. one other *small* side effect, apparently it can sometimes affect your sexual function, well in this case, so far it is helping out! before we had a great sex life but he had to, um concentrate more, take breaks if you know what I mean, now he has _staying power_ if you catch my drift so i have to say, so far, so great with this medication! will keep you posted as I found feedback was really helpful for us to ease our minds before he tried it. We are really positive so far about the generic brand of celexa so far for us!!

self-harm, suicidality, crying spells

I have been on many medications but this was by far the worst for me. While on Celexa (for 4 months) I began to have uncontrollable crying spells and a sense of overall hopelessness (even worst than depression with no medication). I started to act out at home and was constantly fighting with my mom whom I'm very close with. I nearly was kicked out of the house and I didn't care. I also began to practice self-mutilation. I would slice my arms and wrists with anything that I could find: knives, nails, saws, X-acto knifes, razor blades. I would even crack open safety razors I use for shaving to remove the blade to use for cutting. I would also beat my upper arms with my fist or a hammer. I know it sounds pretty intense and crazy! I would even fantasize about hanging myself with my belt. My psychiatrist refused to take me off of it so I went to another one who finally did. As soon as I was taken off all of the self-harm and fighting stopped and has not returned since

I am not a fan of this med but my experience may not be typical, not sure.

Makes me feel agitated and afraid... of CATS.

I have extreme fear of CATS and not just big lion/tiger/lynx/puma type cats...ALL cats. Especially Siamese cats. I hate them with the essence of my being and I'm terrified if I even see one across the street. I have to run back into my house and pull the drapes because I'm afraid the cat will come across the street and try to get in the house. I tell them not to but then they visit me at night when I'm asleep. I can't shake them. So anyway, I'm hoping this new drug helps a lot. I can't tell yet because when I take it I get nervous and start thinking about the cats. I'll report back when I know more.

I've suffered with pretty severe depression since my late teens. After many trials with different anti-depressants/anti-anxiety meds (alone and combinations), including Zoloft, Prozac, Buspar, Klonopin, Lexapro, Elavil, Celexa has by far been the best. When it seemed to start losing effectiveness at 60mg daily, adding Wellbutrin SR 300mg daily has been pretty effective. Overall, Celexa has been great!

So far, none.

Granted, I have only been taking Celexa for 6 days but it has already helped me tremendously. It has taken the intense edge off of the paralyzing anxiety and depression I was feeling. At least I am beginning to function again. I had been perscribed Prozac and Zoloft in the past for SAD and they did nothing at all.
It was very discourageing. I hesitated trying something again but the depression was becoming very severe and affecting my life in a prolonged and negitive way. So far this has been a God-send. I actually feel better already.I do have a history of seizure disorder but have been seizure free 11 years and take phenobarbitol, just in case. An EEG was done first and it continued to show NORMAL.

DIZZYNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
|
I am a 25 year old male who was perscribed to this for anxiety and seritonin reasons. 20mg.once a day.
The first day I took this, It made me extremely tired to the point I had to sit down allllll day and yawn to no end. (which was tolerable). However, the 2nd day, was a completly different story. I got VERY dizzy and started shaking uncontrollably and just in general was NOT enjoying myself. I had to call emergancy services because the side effects wer just too sever and I wanted it out of my system a.s.a.p. Emergancy services than told me there was nothing I could do except go to the E.R. which I wanted to avoid because of cost. But the symptons wer getting even more severe to the point I could not belive! and I ended up having a panic attack! it was the scariest 5-10 min of my life! It doesnt end there. I took zanax to calm me down which worked but made me tired, and I ended up sleeping 16 hours. and 3 days later (now) I am STILL getting dizzy every now and then. Be carefull with this drug!

Made me tired, irritable, and weak, no improvement in depression. Perhaps made colors a little more vivid, though.

absolutely exhausted by 6pm ready for bed.

I suffered from panic attacks, anxiety, pmt and depression which was helped marginally by fluoxetine over a long period of time but then my world was tipped upside down by a bereavement and a number of other circumstances beyond my control. i became suicidal and couldnt leave the house for 5 months (i couldnt listen to music, read or watch tv or even keep it tidy while i was indoors). i've been on citalopram for just over 2 months and am slowly but surely getting my life back. i have been out every day and can do most of the normal household chores. All of my friends and family that are around me can see the difference and are so pleased with my progress. i felt the effects within a few days, by the end of the first week i was functioning almost normally again. the only downside is that i am tired by 4pm can just about cook dinner serve it and clear up then by 6pm i'm ready for bed. the circumstances are still beyond my control but rather than feeling overwhelmed by the injustice of my situation and wanting to end it, i know and accept there is nothing i can do about it and am focusing on the other things in my life i CAN control and trying not to worry or think about the situation I cant.

I've only been on Celexa (20mg) for a couple months, but it's been working pretty well for me. The first two weeks on it were hell (felt sick, no appetite, digestive issues, weight loss, etc,...), but after all the initial side-effects subsided it started to do its job. I have problems with insomnia now though (my PCP and I are working on a solution for that; we're trying Ambien first for a few nights). I take it in the morning, and for most of the day I can feel its effects. It's really picked me up off the floor.

Prescribed for depression due to emotional crisis. One week of 20mg dose and side effects quit after 5 days and mood was altered. Sexual side effects minimal at this point.12 years ago, Paxil was perscribed for depression and the side effects were significant and effectiveness suspect.

Started at 20mg and now up to taking 40mg of this stuff a day and haven't had any major complaints other than tiredness and the decreased libido. I actually stopped dreaming on this stuff, opposite the experience of others it seems. My dreaming did return though it seems regressed, pulling out fragments of stuff from way past.It does seem to lift my depression somewhat, mostly by making me feel numb. Doesn't really do anything for my anxiety as far as i've noticed which is why the psychiatrist keeps cranking the dosage up.

this is the first antidepressant that helped me and didn't make me feel like a zombie. i decided to stop taking it after about 10 months because i was feeling better and wanted to try to cope without meds. for a couple of weeks i was miserable while i was stopping celexa. i had restless leg syndrome (which was something i've never experienced), anxiety, and crying spells. those symptoms scared me so i'm trying lexapro now instead (6 months later). this drug was good for depression. don't impulsively stop taking it if you're feeling better (my mistake)!

If I miss a couple of days I can tell my responses begin to become more emotional, I feel less in control of myself without this medication. It does not "FIX" everything that takes a sincere effort to be positive and be the best you can. With 20 mgs. a day for over a year now so sexual side effects, a couple months of some leg twitching at night, exercise helped that. No weight gain or loss. No fogginess, if I miss a dose no problem. PMS better. I'm happy to have it. No insurance so it is affordable! Some chain stores have it for 4$ per 30 day supply! I do need more sleep, 8-9 hrs. a night.

I have been on Celexa for about 6 months now. I started taking it for anxiety/panic attacks. I started on 10mgs. I am now on 30mgs. It seems to work for awhile and then I start feeling anxious again and have to up the dosage. I have gained about 10 lbs. since taking it. There are days I feel really tired and could sleep all day if given the chance.I can tell I am unmotivated to do most things. Side effects were bad at the beginning of taking it, but it's leveled out some. I am also in CBT for the anxiety and want to withdrawal from this and not go up on the dosage anymore. Overall, I am continuing the medicine because I don't want to feel the anxiety/panic I once felt.

Celexa was helpful at very low doses. staring off at too high of a dosage caused my side effects. The one big side effect I had was a complete loss of libido. Celexa mellowed me out but almost to the point of being a zombie. Things weren't as funny or sad and i basically lost interest in most things. I was tired a lot even when i received plenty of sleep. Sometimes it felt like i was walking around high, which isn't necessarily a good thing.

Coming off Citalopram after being on the maximum dose gave me the first good days I'd had in months. I am convinced Citalopram made depression worse, and immediately heightened suicidality.

I was on this medication for 4 months for my anxiety and depression before I stopped. Although my depression did start to deminish, my motivation for ANYthing did, too. I lost any care for anything. I became this lazy mess. I'd rather be a more worrisome person who gets my stuff done.

So far so good.I was previously on this medication about 6 years ago, can't remember suffering any major side effects, but remember being generally happy with the results. I started taking Celexa again about 7 days ago to combat my OCD and anxiety. The first few days my hands were shaking slightly, but that has passed. The only other side effect I have noticed is difficulty sleeping which results in tiredness or drowsiness. I take the pill before bedtime, but have been waking hours earlier every morning and am then unable to fall back asleep. I also have no libido, but I think that can be blamed on my lack of energy. On the up side, I really feel like some of my anxiety has been relieved. I have felt a lot more optimistic have definitely noticed a change in my attitude...So far so good!
