Default Help! Paxil withdrawal - any experiences? remedies?

I've been on Paxil for several years - I'm in the 7 to 10% that go thru extreme withdrawal - I tried to get off it 5 times thru the years - tried cold turkey big big mistake, tried prozac, and other antidepressants to withdrawal...electrical zaps, flu you name it.
I need to get off this antidepressant because it is causing other problems with my health - one of which ,I need to lose weight for my heart and lung problems.
Thanks...

I don't know what to tell you other than to consult your doctor. I was on antidepressants for around 3-4 years and ended cold turkey from 300 mg Wellbutrin. I had pretty severe flu symptoms for a week and went through a lot of mood swings afterwards. During that time my T kept a very close watch on me to make sure I was emotionaly stable enough and I had a list of contacts I had to call if I felt even the slightest urge to do something stupid.

That is my experience but I cannot stress enough to have doctors approval and a list of contacts. Also having someone checking on you regularly to make sure you are staying safe.

Good Luck

I was on paxil and went through withdraw. The only way I made it through was with the help of my physician that slowly lowered the dosage until I was completely off it.

let your prescribing professional know you are having problems and they will slowly decrease the dosage so that oyu don't have alot of withdrawal pain and so on.

I had a friend that had the same problems as you and it took her a long time. I'd be patient, talk to your doctor and/or go as slowly as you can. It's a nasty drug for withdrawing from. Here's a site that may help?

You have to taper off of paxil slowly. If you are already in withdrawl ( called discontinuation syndrome by docs ), the best cure is to start another SSRI soon.
