Why? Because of the stimulant properties of nicotine?

A stimulant also does that.

How might the nicotine affect your asthma?

Smoking affects my asthma, not nicotine. I don't smoke so, if I want to experience the effects of nicotine, I will use chewing gum.

I am on a very restricted diet. Lately, I cannot even tolerate soda as a source of caffeine (because of the acids in the soda). And, since I've been feeling way down, I thought that nicotine might provide a little happy feeling. On Tuesday, I see my neurologist and will discuss my anti-seizure medication and its side effects, which I do not like.

Thanks, unhappyguy. I don't know much about asthma, so I didn't how or if nicotine would aggravate it. I hope there is something that can help!

I am chewing my first piece of nicotine gum (2g, the lowest dose). I am feeling more relaxed BUT it is burning the inside of my mouth and throat, causing me to cough. The burning is slowly going away. I will see how long the effects last.
