Trig (trigger?)Quarter sized red lump on neck, Spider bite?

Hi,

This is sort of graphic for some that may not like to read about a sore (MAY TRIGGER)

Saturday, I noticed a hard red lump on the back of my neck, up into my hair, like the kind I sometimes get from a deerfly or black fly bite in the summer.

By Sunday night it had a yellowy sort of crusty "scab" covering, I rubbed it of course, but it wasn't terribly itchy, it was a swollen red bump, so I think the swelling caused the itchy sort of sensation. No pus

Today, Tuesday, I've picked at the crusty part several times, but it like has this dark red part in the center - like if you pick a scab off a sore. Which is really what I've done I guess.

It seems to be going down, the swelling, hard lump part, doesn't seem to be infected. I've been washing it.

I looked up insect bites and I think it may be a spider bite.

Anyone else ever have a spider bite. I don't remember any bug bites, but I was at the lake on Saturday.

I hate to call the doctor because it appears to be getting better.

Hi,
yes I've had spider bites. Most of them are just a little itchy with a small raised area. One time I got one on my arm and the next day it was twice the size, with a raised scab and I didn't even scratch it. The doctor said it was a spider bite and sometimes the venom can get in - it has enzymes in it. This acts to break down the tissue, hence the scab. When a spider bites a fly the venom pre-digests the fly so the spider can eat it. I'm sure that was a scientific explanation you could do without LOL. You could try dabbing it with alcohol and then put some benadryl cream on it or cortisone cream. If it doesn't improve then go to the doctors.

Thank you lynn p. and thunderbear

I'm pretty sure it is a regular non harmful spider bite, because even since I posted, the hardness has softened and the size of the lump is small. It is still quite red but no more "drainage-yellowy scab", maybe because I've stopped picking at the darn thing!

I think it was a BIG spider, hence, the BIG red spot!

I loved your scientic logic, I guess I remember that about spiders now that you told me - nice thought isn't it? It doesn't bother me at all. I guess I'm not squeeeeemish like that. Not too crazy about worms is all, though they are good for my garden. Just so they know where they live, and where my house is. and they best respect my boundries
