Default Low Cholesterol leads to Depression/Low Testosterone?

I've recently had some blood work done (just trying to get my health in order with hypothyroidism) and I noticed that I have abnormally low Total Cholesterol, Low LDL, and Low HDL...not to mention Abnormally low levels of Total Testosterone.

Now, to be totally honest, I also have depression. How do I know this? Because I've always had it, and never did anything to get rid of it. I once had a psychiatrist, but lied about everything just so things would blow ever. Never took the Zoloft, and just lied to get my way through all of it. Anyways, I've been seeing some online studies about how people with Low Cholesterol can also have higher risks of Depression and other disorders.

Has anyone heard about this or have any input?

The knee bone's connected to the thigh bone. . . depression can be caused by all sorts of other body problems, especiallly hypothyroidism.

If you're not eating properly that will do all sorts of things to cholesterol and testosterone and whole bunches of other systems and vice versa. I don't know how you're "noticing" what your blood work reports say and mean, what does your doctor say?

Many docs feel we are not getting the epas and dhas in our diet thus asking us to take fish oil. It also helps with joint issues.

Hi Meccorad....My cholesterol has been out of wack before, not to mention Low testosterone...which yes can lead to depression as my doctor told me awhile ago. I remember the normal range for normal testosterone levels for men is between 300-700? One time my was under 200, so I adjusted my diet and some of the medication I was on to affected it...Narcotic pain releivers
have been known to lower your testosterone levels and excessive drinking?

I had to take an Androgen Gel at one time because mine was very low like under 200....this was only temporary. You may want to mention it to your doctor.

I dont have to use it anymore but it helped when i needed it..they wanted to give me injections and I said "no way"
too much controversy with side affects..!

Unfortunately age plays a role too...eep!

Exercise helped raise my T Levels too....

Hope this helps..good luck
ziggy (feel free to pm me if u want to discuss further)

Now I will be controversial. I don't know about men and estrogen but soy in women is known to increase estrogen, cause blood sugar problems and there are questions about blocking absorption of nutrients. I thought soy was my buddy and now the research as well as my naturopath physicians tell me other, I wonder if increased estrogen in men causes testosterone problems? Just a wonder.

My doctor thinks I'm getting all worked up over nothing, but with my medical history, there's a lot to be concerned about...

I asked that all the test results be faxed to me and my doctor, so he can't just say things like "Oh this was a little bit low, nothing to worry about" or "This was high, so you'll need to take more of this."

I wanted to be kept in the loop. Over the past 10 years my health has just declined, it's pretty apparent when I was looking at photos of myself age 11 to now 21. When compared to the normal ranges of cholesterol in my blood it was very low and the cholesterol was abnormally low. I have the test results posted on another thyroid help forum, I just didn't want to post them here. I'm trying to keep myself anonymous. It's all rather embarassing to me...

I've been trying to research on my own about low levels of cholesterol and it's association with depression, especially when it might involve my hypothyroidism. I have a very slow metabolism and probably some absorption problems. So I'm going to start taking coconut oil supplements, eat more eggs, flaxseed, Nordic Naturals fish oils, and L-Carnitine.

My doctor seriously thinks I'm a healthy 21 year old male, it's just that I'm "fat"...that's always been the case with my doctors. None of them knew I was hypothyroid until it was already 3 years after the fact. If I dont' help myself, no one will.
