Default transcranial magnetic stimulation

Anyone here have experience with this? Saw a segment on local tv show this morning. It's FDA approved and showing good results. Also could have applications for other mental health disorders.

My pdoc has mentioned this treatment. I would also like to know if anyone has experience with TMS or repetitive TMS (rTMS).

I have read up on this a little. It is supposed to work somewhat similar to the ECT without actually causing seizures (or amnesia). They actually have one now that you can buy with a doctors prescription and use at home (versus at the doctors office like the TMS or rTMS). They are also FDA approved.Google "Fisher Wallace Stimulator" if you want to read about it. It says that some insurance co reimburse but the thing costs like $800

I was evaluated and approved for this treatment but my ins. co. refused to pay. The cost would have been about $12,000.

I heard about this from a former psychiatrist, he said you have to faithfully show up every time for treatment or it will not work.

How many treatments are required? Is it like a one time thing?

I believe it was 3 times a week for 6 weeks but it may have changed. My eval was about 18 months ago.

It is so cruel and unjust that such things have to be so expensive. I dont think it actually is. The price is being fixed only after seeing the demand which is cruel. I am an engineer and I believe if I know what type of or how much magnetic flux is needed, this device could be built at low cost. Certainly a lot less than $800. It is also mentioned in this magazine article......

Everybody, please read this!

So what are your results? Are you no longer depressed?
