Default MOOD DIARY : I'm very confused

Hello all, I was just wondering would anybody be able to share their thoughts on a "Mood Diary". My pdoc said it would be good for me (and no doubt for her). Im really struggling with this. Its basic but I dont understand it. As you all know Depression has many forms unipolar, bipolar etc.. I have to fill in the diary every day life events, side effects etc. I must be very stupid because I unable to fill it in. On the low side is depression: mild moderate and severe. Then over that is Mania : mild moderate severe.. The problem I have is trying to differenciate between dysphoric (unplesant )mania and depression . Today I'm very het up the last few days Irritable but tired. I basically dont want to be around anyone, which is not very nice as I have 3 grest kids. Its not fair on them.I seen the nurse yesterday and i had filled in my record of the day before and she said "Hmm Yesterday when I say you i thought you were modrately manic,". I had put the tick in the mild manic. Go figure. Please help me . Any piece of advice would really help me. Sorry about the spelling.I also feel like crying but raging at the same time. HELP.

It sounds like a lot of the times your feelings don't fit into the categories you listed.

It may help to use your own words instead of using the chart.

Maybe if you wrote every night about your day, like: I started off on the wrong side of the bed, it was frustrating because of x,y,z, but in the middle of the day i was able to calm down, had a few laughs, etc.

If you're irate or anxious write that down too. It only takes a few minutes.

i agree with belljar. i think writing your own thoughts instead of using the chart you were given maybe less confusing. just write down your mood rather than trying to decipher mania, hypomania, depression, etc. as i said in the p.m. i wrote to you.

also try the quiz here on p.c. it is easy and it gives you the answers you want. it interprets things for you. you can keep track of it on p.c over time and print it out. that may help you with the diary your doc wants you to keep.

do you know how to access the quizzes and charts here on p.c.? they are at the very top of the screen on the left side, after you log in.

I agree that writing it down in the way that is easiest for you is the way to go. You are stressed enough already wondering are you filling it in correctly or how to to it at all.

I sometimes think those charts/diaries can be so clinical and they are confusing. I know when I was doing DBT…I found writing the diary cards so difficult.

So, Pierro hun write it out in the way you feel best describes how things are for you?

yea beautiful, those DBT cards were the worst, for me. i am not a numbers person. i am confused and frustrated a lot in my illness. i think it is best to keep it simple, especially this early on in the game.
