Question does a bad temper indicate bipolar disorder?

This is very embarrassing for me to ask, and I have never told my pdoc or T about it, and I know that I should.

Does a quick fiery temper, where objects get thrown at the wall indicate mania or bipolar disorder, with no other signs of mania? Other than my temper I am a very lethargic person. I sleep more than normal as opposed to not being able to sleep.

When I get very angry I will break things. I have broken many (at least 5) cell phones by smashing them against the wall when angry.

I have also broken three pairs of my eye glasses when angry, by twisting them.

After it happens, of course I feel horrible.

Your opinions mean a lot to me. Thanks.

I also had uncontrollable rages prior to my diagnosis. I would snap and the me would dissapear. Often times, I did not even recall my actions. I have broken countless cell phones and what not.

Definatly talk to your doctors, let them know what is happening. Once I began treatment for bipolar I have only had a couple of instences of the scarry me comming out to play. I do not make excuses for what I have done, but I can honestly say that I was not in control at the time.

I am not sure if this is exactly bipolar or something comorbid, but with treatment I am the real me most of the time.

Irritability is a symptom of bipolar disorder, but it has to be with a number of other symptoms. In other words, irritability alone doesn't indicate bipolar disorder.

I always recall my actions, and I'm embarrassed afterwards. Thing is, I never know when someone at home is going to set me off. I never plan these things.
I hate it.
Thanks for your reply and good luck to you.

Anger can be a symptom of a lot of things, not necessarily bipolar. I would talk to my pdoc and explain my feelings and see what his opinion is.

nah, it isn't a perfect science. there are alot of indicators of bipolar, but rage isn't the most important at all.

rage, I think must be accompanied with alot of other symptoms to be caused by bipolar. Typically I am very calm person but when I have been high I completely loose control of my emotions. I do not know it this helps you..

I would say that if bipolar, rage *could* be a component... a manifestation of sorts .... however rage does not mean bipolar.

Duct tape is good... Can fix almost anything, and can be turned into almost anything as well
